The job of a firefighter is crucial to having a community well protected from fire and other emergency situations and must have the desire and compassion to help others and to protect lives, property and the environment. Individual will contribute to the firefighting team by protecting citizens during emergencies by fighting and extinguishing fires; executing rescues; mitigating chemical spills. Will also conduct property inspections, take part in ongoing training and participate in outreach events within community. Qualities necessary to succeed in this job include physical training, judgment, and safety management skills.
1.High School Diploma or GED Certificate (Attach Copy) 2. One (1) year of related experience preferred. 3. Must possess a valid state drivers license (Attach Copy) 4. Must complete a "Release of Information" form. (Attach Copy) 5. Must complete "Criminal Records Release" form (Attach Copy) 6. Must be able to obtain clearance for a Nations Drivers Permit. 7. Must be eighteen (18) years of age. 8. Must successfully pass a local background check. 9. Must attend and graduate from the San Juan Community College Fire Academy or New Mexico Firefighters Training Academy within one (1) year of hire. (Two attempts allowed. Unsuccessful in passing will result in termination.) 10. Must pass firefighter written exam 70% or higher. 11. Must pass Candidate Physical Agility Test (CPAT). 12. Must submit to random drug test. 13. Must pass one (1) required fit for duty physical annually. 14. Must pass two (2) required fitness tests annually.
